NTT Resaerch was established in July 2019 as a base for basic research in North America. It consists of 3 laboratories, "Physics & Informatics Laboratories" which focuses on quantum research, "Cryptography & Information Security Laboratories" which focuses on cryptography research, and "Medical & Health Informatics Laboratories" which focuses on bioinformatics research. NTT Research is responsible for the globalization of NTT's research and development. This presentation will introduce the innovation strategy and positioning in the IOWN initiative.

Smart Agriculture toward Society 5.0

Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) “Technologies for Creating Next-Generation Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries” was conducted for five years from 2014 to 2018 under cabinet office, Japan government. A goal of the SIP was to establish a super labor-saving and high-productivity smart agriculture model by incorporating robotics, IoT, bigdata, genome information and other leading-edge technologies. The SIP ended in this March, and we are now implementing these technologies to real society with private sector and local governments, etc. In this lecture, the current status and future prospects of the smart agriculture model towards society 5.0 will be introduced.

One after the other, things such as cars and factories are being connected to networks through the IoT, which is giving rise to new services based on digital data. At the same time, the digitalization of the personalized data of humans such as individual preferences is progressing, and computers have come to recognize human voices and faces with high accuracy. In this lecture, I will talk about the future world while imagining how it will change due to the acceleration of digitalization, and the key technologies that will enable it.

Basic Research Supporting All-Photonics Network

NTT Science and Core Technology Laboratory Group has been conducting basic research that will lead to innovations in the ICT field. These include optoelectronic-convergence devices that enable high-speed operation with ultra-low power consumption, innovative photonic devices that support high-capacity optical transmission, LASOLV, a new concept computer based on optical communication technologies, and an optical lattice clock network as a next-generation frequency/time standard infrastructure. This lecture will introduce our basic research efforts and future outlook for making the IOWN concept into reality.
